Golf is a wonderful game but it can be incredibly frustrating to learn. The swings feel awkward, the ball doesn’t go where they want, and the improvement can feel slow. That’s where most junior golfers either fall in love with the game… or lose interest entirely. The difference? How fun the learning process is. That’s why the best golf drills for kids aren’t about technique — they’re about engagement. The key for every junior golfer is not how fast they improve its how badly they want to keep playing. I’ll pick the six year old that loves playing over the one that already has a picture perfect follow through every time.
Golf Is a Game — So Practice Should Feel Like One
If your child is learning golf through slow reps and the same two drills every week, it won’t be long before they’re bored. And once they’re bored, improvement stops. What keeps kids playing? Games, challenges, variety, and a sense of success. That’s why we built Legends of the Links — a golf card game packed with skill-based challenges and competitive golf drills for kids that feel like play, not practice. Whether your child is 6 or 16, the right type of drill can turn golf into the most exciting part of their week.
What Makes a Great Golf Drill for Kids?
Here’s the formula:
- simple to explain
- involves a clear goal or score
- offers appropriate challenge for skill levels
- makes kids want to try again
When a drill hits all of these, you’ve got a winner.
The Legends of the Links golf card game was designed around that formula. Every challenge card is a game disguised as a drill — from long-drive contests to creative putting games to short-game pressure challenges. Flip a card, read the challenge, and go. You’ll be amazed how quickly your child forgets they’re “working on something.”
Examples of Fun Golf Drills from Legends of the Links
Here are a few favorites straight from the deck:
🟢 Aerial Assault: Pick a shot to chip from. Place a club between the ball and the hole. Chip a ball so it lands past the club but stops within 2 paces of the hole. Move the club one pace closer to the hole after each successful shot.
🟢 Balloon Pop: Place 6 balls on tees on the putting green. From 6 ft away from the tees attempt to putt a ball to knock off the golf balls on the tees. Track how many putts it takes to knock off every ball.
🟢 Out an On: Attempt to hit a ball out of the bunker and onto the green with your highest lofted wedge. If successful move to the next highest lofted club. Continue doing this and see what the least lofted club you can successfully stop a ball on the green with.
You can play these solo, parent vs. child, or team vs. team. It brings out the best in young golfers while keeping them laughing and competing.

The Big Picture: Why It Matters
When kids enjoy how they practice, they come back for more. And when they come back consistently, they improve — not because they have to, but because they want to. That’s what makes the right golf drills for kids so powerful. It’s not just about building a better swing. It’s about building a love for the game that can last a lifetime.
Final Thought
The golf journey is a long one, you have to enjoy it to stay with it.
If you want your child to stick with golf, give them tools that feel like games — not chores. The next time you’re at the course, bring a deck of Legends of the Links. Let the cards lead the way. You’ll create moments that matter — and drills they’ll never forget. Because when kids are having fun, they’re already winning.
